Straight Teeth - No Braces
Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires. The aligners are made of clear, strong medical grade plastic that is virtually invisible when worn. This allows you to straighten your teeth without people noticing.
Traditionally an impression was taken and sent to Align Technologies in the USA. Today an intra oral digital scanner is used to produce a 3-D model of the teeth and this is transmitted to Align Technologies over the internet.
Invisalign uses 3-D computer imaging technology to depict the complete treatment plan from the initial position to the final desired position from which a series of custom-made, clear aligners are produced. Each aligner moves teeth incrementally and is worn for about two weeks, then replaced by the next in the series until the final position is achieved.
After the scan is taken and transmitted to Align Technologies a Clincheck treatment plan arrives back in a few days. Dr. Ferguson has a chance to review the proposed treament plan and make any changes or ammendments required for the best orthodontic result. Once he is satisfied with the final result the aligners are processed and shipped by UPS courier from the USA to Melbourne.
Approximately two weeks after the scan is carried out the aligners will be back in the practice. On the day they are fitted the first step is to place some small tooth coloured attachments on the teeth. These are not required on all patients but are to help with some specific movements of teeth such as extrusion or rotation. Once the prescribed attachments are fitted the first aligner is snapped into position and instructions are given on fitting and removing the aligners.
Each aligner is worn as close to 24/7 as possible for two weeks. Three aligners are supplied at each six weekly visit so that treatment can progress smoothly.
At adjustment visits Dr. Ferguson will check the attachements and the fit of the current aligner. The Clincheck program is open at the chair side so the patients teeth can be compared to the prescribed movement on the Clincheck. Adjustment visits take about ten to fifteen minutes and ensure that treatment is proceeding as efficiently as possible.
Invisalign allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan before you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
